Joel Peter Witkin
There is something about the darkness that beacons some of us to fantastical or strange images. The unreal as a means of escape possibly or to take a Freudian twist, a look deep into our subconcious.
Images like these have been created by photographers. Layers upon layers of grain, super imposed images, contrasty and toned prints, and strange content. Some of my most beloved images take on all of these things so it begs to be asked, is this style a movement of its own? What is the hisory of these images? who created this aesthetic? This will be an ongoing post to give this some more thought.
